Atiku condemns siege laid on National Assembly by security operatives

condemned the siege laid on the National Assembly on Tuesday, August 7, by
operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). Abubakar took to his
Twitter page to remind Nigerians that his party had earlier warned that the
recent occurrence in Benue state House
Assembly was not
checked on time would be escalated to the federal.

the former vice president was referring to the attempt by eight lawmakers to
impeach Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom. He tweeted: “We warned that if what
occurred in Benue last week was not checked on time, it would escalate to the

reacting to the siege on his Twitter page, Atiku also released a statement
through his office. The statement read: "The attention of former vice
president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has been drawn to an illegal and
undemocratic attempt by fascist forces to break into the National Assembly for
the purpose of furthering the agenda to force a change in the Nigerian Senate’s
leadership. "Atiku Abubakar completely condemns this atrocity and calls on
all those involved to put Nigeria first and abandon this madness. "The
constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, guarantees both
the independence of the legislature and separation of powers. Nigeria is a
democracy not a military dictatorship and we the people will never return to

during the siege on the National Assembly, its clerk, Alhaji Mohammed Sani
Omolori, was denied access to the complex. Omolori arrived the National
Assembly premises at around 10:02am, but was denied entry by the masked
Department of State Services (DSS) personnel who occupied the main gate of the
